These practices are selected based on their efficacy proven through peer-reviewed research. NPDC is comprised of multiple universities that research and promote the use of Evidence-Based Practices on ASD.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research Autism<\/strong> is a charity dedicated to researching interventions in autism. Their website has a series of common interventions that are ranked based on &#8220;what scientific evidence has been published in peer-reviewed journals.&#8221;\u00a0<strong>PECS has been given two ticks on their rating scale, indicating \u201cstrong positive evidence\u201d for the quality of evidence supporting PECS as an intervention.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_code admin_label=&#8221;PECS Opinion&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; custom_css_main_element=&#8221;background:rgba(0,194,34,0.25);||border:5px solid #00C222;||padding:10px;||text-align:center;&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Their opinion of PECS:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee style=\"font-size: 32px; margin-bottom: 0;\">\u201cVery strong positive evidence.\u201d<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><span style=\"font-weight:bold; color:#00C222;\"><i class=\"fa fa-check fa-3x\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-check fa-3x\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span>[\/et_pb_code][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Research Autism Quote&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; max_width=&#8221;70%&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;15px||15px|&#8221; custom_css_main_element=&#8221;margin:0 auto !important;&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is a straightforward and positive approach, cost effective and not overly time consuming to implement.<\/p>\n<p><cite><a href=\"http:\/\/researchautism.net\/autism-interventions\/our-evaluations-interventions\/36\/picture-exchange-communication-system-and-autism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8211; Research Autism<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Second List&#8221; module_class=&#8221;research-list&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Peer-Reviewed Research Review Articles<\/b> have determined that PECS is evidence-based practice. One review published in the journal <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1080\/10459881003785506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Preventing School Failure: Alternative Education for Children and Youth<\/b> <\/a><\/em>concluded that PECS is evidence-based practice for Communication, Socialization, and Behavior.<\/li>\n<li>The journal <em><a href=\"http:\/\/pediatrics.aappublications.org\/content\/130\/Supplement_2\/S169.full.pdf+html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Pediatrics<\/strong><\/a><\/em> concluded that PECS is Evidence-Based Practice, as well as the only Evidence-Based Augmentative\/Alternative Communication System, for individuals with autism spectrum disorders.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21787048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Well-Controlled Research Reported in Peer-Reviewed Journals<\/a> has shown that PECS is more effective than \u201ceducation as usual\u201d for improving communication and other skills in school settings.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"..\/research\/\"><strong>150+ published articles providing evidence of the effectiveness of PECS<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The co-developers, Andy Bondy and Lori Frost, continue to remain active in both research and writing.
